I want to share with you today something that has become a family tradition at our house during the summer.
a Seafood Boil.
We just LOVE it!
It’s also GREAT because you cook it outside so don’t bring heat into your kitchen on these HOT days!
Here’s what you need to do your own:
Crab- we used 4 lb. but really could have used 6-7 lbs.- we LOVE it and never have enough because I can’t remember how much to buy. I know, BAD! But, hey, I now have my blog to go back to look at to help me remember.
2 lbs. of uncooked, de-veined shrimp.
One box of Zatarain’s Crab Boil.
Something to cook a large amount in. We use our turkey fryer.
15 ears of corn, with each ear being cut in 1/3.
3 garlic cloves cut in half. Leave the peels on.
5 lbs. of small potatoes and 3 large peeled onions cut in quarters.
3 packages of uncooked sausage.
Here’s how you do it:
Heat your water over an outdoor cooker, or medium-high heat indoors. Add your Zatarain Seasoning , and bring to a boil. Add potatoes, and sausage, and cook for about 10 minutes. Add the corn and crab; cook for another 5 minutes, then add the shrimp when everything else is almost done, and cook for another 3 or 4 minutes or until they they turn pink.
While things are cooking we set up a big white table and line it with newspaper. After everything is cooked we remove it all the goodness with a strainer and place it on the newspaper. We then DIG IN!! No manners for this dinner. Serve with melted butter and cocktail sauce for those who want it for their shrimp. This feeds 11 adults with a little leftover.
It was sooooooooo yummy! We enjoyed it so much I forgot to take pictures of us chowing down.
Have you done a seafood boil before? Do you have any family summer traditions?
