Hi ladies, we are starting a new Bible study at my church this year. We are studying “Who we are in Christ” and each week we are taking a different truth statement from the Freedom in Christ Ministry. I actually made a set of Who I am in Christ scripture cards and you can find them here so you can see what the truth statements are. Our goal is to put these truths into practical terms and learn to apply these statements to our everyday lives. I believe if we knew these principles and lived them we would be powerful women of God! Since I’m helping to teach this year I wanted to share the lessons with you every week.
Freedom in Christ Ministry believes that we have 3 areas of need as humans that occurred after the fall.
1. To be accepted
2. To be secure
3. To be significant
Thankfully Jesus was given to us to fill all these needs. We just need to receive them. I hope with the things I share you can grab onto these gifts and let God help you renew your thinking so that we can live the abundant life He came to give.
The truth statement I am sharing today is I am God’s Child.
If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior you are God’s Child! If you haven’t and want to you can do this, this very day. Please see here
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, John 1:12
What are the benefits of being a child of God?
1. We are given eternal life! We will live with him forever. We will be in constant union with him.
2. We don’t have to wait until heaven we can have that companionship right here on earth. We can have a relationship with God. He’s not just some distant God, He’s a loving father. He is for us not against us. He loves us. He not only loves us, he likes us. He doesn’t just put up with us he adores us and rejoices over us with singing. Zeph. 3:17 He understands us and has compassion on us. “As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him” – Psalm 103:13
3. We are given the gift of the Holy Spirit. “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” – Romans 8:14-17 The Holy Spirit leads and guides us.
All these things belong to us. We might not be experiencing all these things but they are OURS. Take for example Prince George. He is royalty! He will be heir to the throne. He has privileges most of the world doesn’t. He doesn’t “know” he is royalty, he doesn’t know he will be heir to the throne. That doesn’t change the truth that he is and has all these benefits. That’s the way it is with us. If we are God’s child we have been given all these things and many more not mentioned here.
Think back to when you had your first baby and how you would just sit and stare at that baby with gratitude and love just overflowing toward that child. That’s how God looks at us. He loves and adores us. This has taken me a long time to totally grasp but it’s always been mine.
This is a very simplistic list of benefits. We have been give many, many more.
Practical application::
How does knowing and believing that we are God’s child help us feel accepted?
Daily ask your Father to reveal His love, acceptance and delight over you this week. LET HIM LOVE YOU!!
Does your everyday life show that you are God’s child? If not, pray and ask God to show you if there is any area of your life where you need to let go and repent? Repentance is a weapon and it’s also a gift.
Please let me know if you have any questions or leave a comment and share how God showed you His love this week.
