Have you ever whispered to yourself, What if the joy is gone for good? I’ve been there—the fear that my marriage would always feel heavy, that the laughter we once shared would never return. It’s a lonely, suffocating thought: I’m scared I’ll never feel joy again in my marriage. Friend, if you’ve ever sat in that place of dread, I want you to know—you are not alone, and your story isn’t over. Joy may feel buried, but it is not lost forever.

Joy Has a Name
Here’s the hope God gave me: joy isn’t something my husband had to give back to me—joy is found in Christ first. Psalm 16:11 promises, “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
When I stopped looking to my husband to be the source of joy and started looking to Jesus, something shifted. My marriage didn’t magically transform overnight, but my heart did. I found myself laughing again at little things. I found gratitude in places I’d been overlooking. And slowly, the heaviness began to lift.
Friend, your joy is not gone—it’s waiting for you in God’s presence. When you root yourself in Him, joy can spill over into your marriage even in seasons where connection feels hard.
Simple Ways to Spark Delight
Here are three ways I began to rediscover joy:
- Practice daily gratitude. Each morning, thank God for one specific thing about your husband. Gratitude shifts perspective.
- Do something playful. Joy is often found in laughter. Invite lightness back into your home—watch a funny movie, play a game, or even dance in the kitchen.
- Seek joy in God’s Word. Let His promises refresh your spirit. The more your joy is rooted in Him, the more it will overflow into your marriage.
Joy, Rising Again
If you fear joy is gone for good, friend, hear me: joy is never lost, because Jesus Himself is joy. Even in the heaviest seasons, His presence can fill you. Start with one small step today—choose gratitude, choose play, choose His Word. Joy will begin to rise again, and it can spill over into your marriage in ways you never expected.
