Everyday we are in a battle about what we are going to think about, what we are going to dwell on and there are days it really does feel like a battle. I don’t consider myself a negative person, but I’m really good at beating myself up and expecting a lot from myself.
When I focus on the good in life it causes me to search for more that’s good! And then as a result I see and appreciate more good and that sets the stage for even more positive circumstances. Eventually, when I do this consistently, I will have more joy, more enthusiasm, and more gratitude. This creates a victory cycle not a vicious cycle.
But what happens when I focus on the negative? When I think negative thoughts it causes me to search for more that’s bad and I miss out on God’s blessings that are right in front of me. For example, last week I sitting on a plane headed to Cancun. Now I’m not a huge fan of flying but I can do it. Although I had 3 plane changes to get to my destination. I will be honest my thought life was in a battle. I obsessed with what if we miss our connecting flights? What if our luggage doesn’t make it? What if this happens? What if that happens? I could go on and on with my obsessive worrying, almost to the point of convincing myself its almost not even worth going! Not only is this behavior sin but it is robbing me of joy and peace, of a gift from God. I’m missing out on Gods blessings. Another thing, my worrying is not accomplishing anything good. Not one thing!
When our second plane was taking off God gave me a picture of Jesus holding the plane in the palm of his hand. I chose to focus on that. Do you think my stress level got better? YES! I get to choose my thoughts. I get to choose what I dwell on. Each moment can be a new beginning, but I have to be consciously aware of what I am thinking and dwelling on.
What does dwelling on something really mean?
1. Thinking deeply
2. Reviewing
3. Replaying
4. Meditating
5. Talking about it
If you dwell on your strengths, things your grateful for, your goals, the good in other people then you will receive even more blessings, even more love, and even more accomplishments.
Tommy Newberry says, “We tend to dwell on either what we fear or on what most excites us. If we don’t consciously think about what we’re thinking about then we are more likely to fall into fear thinking. You may not always be able to control the thoughts that are triggered from your surroundings but you can control what you dwell on!”
What are you dwelling on?
What are you dwelling on?
Today’s Life Lesson Challenge:
1. Think about what you are dwelling on.
2. What are you thankful for right now? What gifts has God given you today?
3. What are something’s you have done well today? (think on the good things you’ve done, not all the places you fall short.
Write these things down.
