I’m excited to share with you my freezer paper stenciled beach themed pillows made from burlap and paint drop cloths. I love when I can create frugally and this definitely was that project.
Supplies Needed:
- Fabric
- Freezer Paper
- Acrylic paint in your choice of colors
- Foam Brush
- Pillow form
I purchased some freezer paper. You can buy it at grocery stores for approximately $6.00. I cut my paper to fit my Silhouette mat and decided on my patterns. I chose a crab, anchor, sea horse and coral. I cut out a stencil of each item. You can do either make your pillows ahead of time and insert a piece of cardboard inside so the paint doesn’t bleed through. Or you can make your pillow after it has dried completely.
Once the stencil was cut I laid it out onto my material ( I made 2 drop cloth pillows and 2 from burlap) and ironed the stencil on. You want to iron the shiny side down.
After it is ironed down you want to start painting. I used acrylic paint and a foam brush to paint the stencil. You don’t want a lot of paint on your brush. After it’s dried peel off your stencil. If there are any mistakes you can touch it up with a thin brush.
Here’s my finished sea horse.

anchor
and my crab. Try and keep the amount of paint the same. You can see in this picture that it’s a little thicker in some places.
After everything is dry go ahead and make your pillow. If your pillow is already made just slip in your pillow form. Then the fun part is displaying your hard work and enjoying your handiwork.
